2020 Mazda CX-3 vs. 2020 Mazda CX-5
The Mazda CX-3 is considered our base model—ideal for commuters and new drivers. The Mazda CX-5, on the other hand, is nestled into our lineup between the new Mazda CX-30 and Mazda CX-9. This model is a happy medium that is perfect for parents and many other types of drivers. Here are a few key differences between these two models to keep in mind while shopping:
- Size: Our lineup runs from smallest to largest, but each model is still roomy. The Mazda CX-5 has slightly more head- and leg-room than the Mazda CX-3. Exterior-wise, the Mazda CX-3 is slimmer, and when combined with its smaller turning radius, this model can easily navigate small parking garages and has no problem parallel parking.
- Engine: While both models get similar fuel economy ratings, the Mazda CX-5 has a slightly larger power output. The Mazda CX-5 can produce 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, while the Mazda CX-3 generates 148 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. While the Mazda CX-3 comes with a 2.0-liter engine, the Mazda CX-5 comes with two engine options—a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a 2.5-liter turbo.
- Extra features: You’ll find that the Mazda CX-5 also has a more “upscale” cabin feel with more standard and available features. For 2020, the Mazda CX-3 is only offered in the Sport trim, whereas the Mazda CX-5 is available in several trim options. This makes the Mazda CX-5 slightly more customizable as well.
