Dangers of Faulty Turn Signals

If your turn signals suddenly stop working, other drivers won’t be able to anticipate your intended turns on the road. In this case, you may need to slow down and use hand signals until you can safely park at home or a nearby dealership.

To use hand signals, roll down the window of your Mazda car and extend your arm out of the car so other drivers can see you use these motions:

  • For left turns: extend your arm straight out
  • For right turns: bend your arm at the elbow with your hand facing up
  • Before stopping: bend your arm at the elbow with your hand and forearm pointing at the ground, all while your palm is open

Possible Diagnoses for Broken Turn Signals

  • Dead light bulbs. Easily the quickest fix, you can stop by a local auto store to buy a replacement set of bulbs and swap them out on the spot.
  • Faulty light turn-on switch. In this case, the device near your steering wheel that you use to turn your signals on and off may not be sending the signal to do so. It could be the wiring or the switch itself.
  • Oxidized bulb sockets. This is essentially rust and/or dust that disrupts the contact between the socket and the bulb. A thorough cleaning can easily clear that up.
  • Blown fuse. This is more common in older vehicles, where the air conditioner or other devices in the car overload the fuse.
