Mazda parts

While you don’t need to be an expert on every single component in your car, it does pay to have a good understanding of how some of the major Mazda parts function. This guide goes over the powertrain and drivetrain, how they work, and how they’re different.

What is the Powertrain?

The powertrain of a vehicle is the component that supplies the power, and the most important part is the engine. The powertrain in the Mazda CX-5, for example, is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. The goal of the powertrain is to transform kinetic energy into motion.

What is the Drivetrain?

The drivetrain consists of several different parts, including the transmission, driveshaft, and differential. They work together to drive the car.

The basic rundown of how this works starts with the engine generating power that then powers a flywheel. The flywheel – in conjunction with the transmission – sends power to other parts of the drivetrain. Then the driveshaft rotates, which powers the differential. The differential then gets power from the various driveshaft parts in order to get the wheels moving.

Taking Care of Your Powertrain and Drivetrain

The best way to help ensure that both your powertrain and drivetrain stay in great shape is with regular proper maintenance. This needs to include oil changes every six months to keep the engine clean and running optimally. Flushing the transmission every 30,000 miles or every two years is also a very smart idea.
