Even if Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t his shadow, it doesn’t mean that we’re completely out of the woods when it comes to winter. You just never know when another storm will hit, which is why our Mazda service center offers these tips for getting your car out of the snow.
Carry the Right Tools
If your car gets buried at your home, you can probably get what you need from your house. But, what happens if a snowplow buries it when you’re at work? This is why you should always have in your car a small shovel and things like salt, dirt, or even cat litter to supply traction.
Carve a Path
The first step in removing your car is to create a path around the tires. Use your shovel to get rid of as much snow as possible.
Rock the Car Back and Forth
Now, get in the car and drive up and back repeatedly to create more of a path. Don’t gun the engine; just go slowly to build some momentum.
Get Out Your Traction Material
If you’re still stuck, now you know why you’ve been driving around with cat litter in your car. Put that around the tires both in front and in back. Hopefully, this will give you the traction you need to finally get out. And speaking of traction, be sure to turn your traction control off. This prevents the spinning of wheels on slippery surfaces, but that’s what you need your wheels to do in this situation.
Maybe it’s time for some snow tires so you don’t need to have such a hard time in the snow? For a new set, make an appointment with the service center at Peruzzi Mazda near Philadelphia.
