Trim Levels (Exterior)
You can pick from four trim levels when you get a 2018 CX-5. They start with the Sport, which thanks to the 2018 update comes with a longer list of features like LED lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and additional safety systems. The Touring is the next option up, and it adds leatherette seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The Grand Select trim offers rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate, and LED fog lights, and the Grand Touring is the top trim with AudioPilot for noise cancellation and rear sunshades.
Engine (Power)
The 2018 Mazda CX-5 runs on the 2.5-liter SKYACTIV engine, an I-4 model that produces 187 horsepower with 185 pound-feet of torque. Also standard is a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, which means you can make clutchless gear shifts instead of letting the computer control your transmission. It also has a sport setting for more aggressive automatic shifting. The CX-5's efficiency numbers are 31 highway and 24 city mpg, or 29/23 with all-wheel drive.
Performance
Mazda makes all of its cars and crossovers fun to drive, and the 2018 CX-5 is certainly no exception. The suspension is comfortable enough for a family vehicle, but it still hugs the curves at high speeds. You also get steering that's sharp enough to keep up with smaller cars, and the available all-wheel drive can come on any trim and help keep your tires glued to the road. And if you'd like to have some extra fun and don't need to worry about gas, hitting the Sport Mode button will make the CX-5 accelerate faster.
Interior
The 2018 Mazda CX-5 has space to spare, with 30.9 cubic feet for cargo behind the rear seats and 59.6 cubic feet behind the front row. Rear passengers have nothing to complain about either since they get 39 inches of legroom. The interior features include a standard 7-inch touch screen for all four trims with MAZDA CONNECT and HD Radio compatibility. The top two trims also get a 10-speaker Bose sound system, not to mention features like leather seats, a heated front row, and a power moonroof.
Safety Features
The list of basic safety features on a 2018 CX-5 includes Smart City Brake Support, six air bags, and the Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control System. As of 2018, the CX-5 also gets a rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring on every trim. The crossover also has other driver assistance features you can get as upgrades, such as the Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist and the Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go.
